Each ABA group (North,Central,South) has a calendar of events planned every 6 months.
An ABA meeting is very informal. Depending on the date of the meeting, there may be four or five mums, or often lots more! Some are pregnant, some are new mothers and some have two, three or more children. Mothers of all ages - whether they are in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties - will find they fit right in. You do not have to be breastfeeding to attend.
There is a starting time listed on our calendar, but it's okay if you're not on time. Most people have days when they aren't! Children of all ages enjoy coming to meetings and playing together. We understand that babies can be unsettled or feed frequently and there is always a willing pair of hands if you need a break.
Discussion meetings have time to meet and chat to each other before and after the discussion. These are led by trained breastfeeding counsellors and everyone can contribute, if they like. Guest speakers are sometimes invited. Social meetings, such as coffee mornings, lunches, or dinners are designed to meet and form friendships. Trained breastfeeding counsellors are always present.
At meetings, you can borrow from the group library, browse and buy from Mothers Direct products, chat to a breastfeeding counsellor and meet the other mothers in the group. Morning tea is provided by everyone bringing a plate - if they can. It is okay to come empty handed. You are also welcome to bring your partner, friend or family member along for moral or practical support.
You can attend a meeting before joining, to see if ABA is for you, and you can subscribe at any meeting. You don't have to let anyone know you are coming, however you might like to confirm the meeting details with the contact person on the calendar date.
